Food During Mediation
Some mediators believe that the best way to extract an agreement from the participants in a mediation is to starve them into submission. This is a mistake.
It may sound inconsequential, but the availability of food and beverages seems to go far in putting people in a more conciliatory mood. This mood can be enhanced by creating a situation in which the food (e.g., a plate of cookies) is to be shared by the disputants.
